Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, launching the Malaysia Green Forum

PUTRAJAYA- On 26^th April 2010, the Malaysia Green Forum had their meeting at Sri Siantan Conference Hall, in event of launching the forum, the Prime Minister gave his speech before the launch of the forum.

The Malaysia Green Forum of 2010 was launched on April 26^th 2010 at the Sri Siantan Conference hall after the speech of our great Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak. The Prime Minister stated in his speech that Malaysia, is one of the earliest nations in the world to have adopted a serious concern towards our environment by enacting the Environment Quality Act way back in 1974. The Prime Minister too thanked the contribution of the previously retired Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, for establishing the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak too stated that the government has consistently affirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability over the years and he pledges to continue this throughout his administration. At the end of his speech, he announced the formation of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, by that the forum was launched.

Earthquake in Alaska, affecting three other fishich islands

ALASKA- A strong earthquake hit Aleutian Islands Sunday night, causing an after shock which affected other islands in Alaska the quake hit at 7.01 pm PST and there were no casualties.

            The earthquake which was measured to be 6.6 magnitude by the Ritcher scale was one of the highest earthquake record so far in Alaska. The earthquake caused an aftershock quite powerful that it was warned by the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center to the citizens and affected several other fishing islands in Alaska. The earthquake shook three Aleutian fishing villages in the island itself, which are Nikolski, Dutch Harbour and Unalaska for three consecutive minutes.

            The earthquake so far, did not cause any serious damage to the other affected islands around, only causing shakes and minor damage to the properties. According to a local seismologist, George Carts, at the local seismic center at Alaska stated, “the quake was felt strongly in the towns of Unalaska, Dutch Harbor and Nikolski. These three fishing villages are located on western islands in the Aleutian chain.” Carts too said, "There was some very minor damage at Nikolski, with items knocked off shelves and small items damaged.".

According to the Ritcher Scale, an earthquake measured 6.6 magnitude would have caused major damage in populated areas. The officials stated that there were 20 aftershocks due to the massive earthquake, and one was measured at 5.0 magnitude, luckily for them none of the aftershocks could cause a tsunami.
